Potato Soup

6 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 medium onion, peeled and coarsely chopped
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 stick butter
Whole milk

Cover potatoes and onions with water and bring to boil. Add salt. Boil until tender. Drain. Add butter, and with potato masher, mash about 1/2 of the potatoes and onions, mashing butter along with vegetables. Cover vegetables with milk, and stir well. Return to heat and bring to slow boil over medium heat and heat thoroughly. Add more milk to taste.
